When the timetable came out I was skeptical about the place and the activity. From my previous travels in Australia, I thought it would be another boring old tourist spot that was ‘beautiful’. From the places I had seen what I expected was a town of that was old, out of date town that was struggling to survive. It would be another boring place that was beautiful but would have historical importance that would have no significance or special meaning to me. How I was wrong! Through this amazing race like activity, this place proved to be much more significant to the heritage of all Taiwanese people than I thought. I had always wondered other than its spot in the Pacific Ocean that linked the east and the west why Taiwan was as important to all the races that tried to tame this land. Through the talk with the “Tao Jing Da Ren” my group and I learnt that Taiwan other than its geographical importance was also once one of the most important trade and mining centre in the whole of Asia. Although i may still regard myself as an Australian over a Taiwanese, through today’s exercise, I have a new found treasure. A treasure in my thinking I can be proud of my heritage and that in the near future I may be able to say to people I am from Taiwan.
