On our first official OCAC camp , we went through a lot of formal introductions with the people that help made this invaluable opportunity possible. Our first stop was with the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commision. This outstanding department of Taiwan helps promotes Taiwan culture across the world, especially to those of Taiwanese heritage outside of the country. This visit was especially important to us because the majority of our members have Taiwanese parents or grandparents but grew up outside the country. After meeting with this department and eating amazing Beijing Duck, we visited the important Legislative Yuan, shown above. In this majestic building, the country's outstanding senators debate and pass important laws for the country. But similarly to the USA, bills have to be approved by the President or passed again by a certain percentage if vetoed.

After the formal introductions in the morning, our amazing counselors Yin-Hsieh Lien took us to the Chang-Kai Shek memorial. In this amazing monument, we learned that this was modeled after the amazing Lincoln Memorial in my own country, the USA. Seeing this amazing man revered in the same way as Lincoln is in the US was very touching. Despite Taiwan's relatively short history, CKS made a lasting impact that helped develop Taiwan in its early stages and help earn some recognition in the world.
