Today, we went to Peinan Cultural Park and the National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung. At the museum, we learned about the Peinan, a prehistoric civilization living in Taiwan. Our tour guide explained several of the cultural practices of the Peinan, from burial customs to commonly worn jewelry. The museum displays were both interesting and whimsical at times, as you can see here:
After touring the National Museum of Prehistory, we walked in Peinan Cultural Park to visit an actual archaeological excavation in progress. It was interesting seeing the archaeologists work on uncovering the area and learning more about their methods.

Roxy taught us a dance to accompany the song we learned to sing yesterday, though I unfortunately don't have any pictures because I was busy dancing!
We traveled to Kaohsiung, stopping for a treat along the way – a huge shaved ice dessert with fruit:

Then, we visited the old British Consulate at Takao and Sizihwan, taking advantage of the beautiful sunset to take pictures with our banner as well as fake “romantic” pictures. It's been a wonderful day (and almost a week now) in Taiwan!
