This morning we went river tracing, which I think should be renamed river-trekking. Like climbing a mountain it felt like we were overcoming gravity and a downstream flow of water. Most likely similar to many this activity is one that we may never forget, hoped would go on forever and also would attend if given the chance. Needless to say this is a once in a lifetime experience that we as a group of young people, connected by our heritage, battle nature in such a direct way. However it should be noted that the most important part about this activity is the way that teamwork and trust in each other was so evident during the trek. This was highlighted most when faith was put in each other during the formation of the circle. All we could feel was out partner’s hands and each of us knew that we would be alright if we just hold on.
For lunch we had a traditional Taiwanese aboriginal meal at紅瓦屋 . Two important feelings came from this. First of all, through the swapping of dishes and the conversations at the table, an atmosphere of all us belonging to one big family could be felt. More importantly however, is the fact that again we have learnt another piece to Taiwan’s rich history.
In the afternoon, we saw the beautiful view of Taiwan. 池上 uses a special irrigation system that transfers water from uphill down into the rice fields. Some went barefoot into the rice fields. 池上 is so well known because it has many tests to prove its quality.
