Day of Railroads and Hakka

We were blessed to see this beautiful scenery today. In the forefront is an old railway bridge that collapsed under old age and because of the major earthquake in Taiwan over 5 years ago. The remains however still project a sense of majesty along with an antediluvian feel with nature growing from the remains. In the background remains a railroad line that is still in use for transporting passengers. This juxtaposition is very pronounced; it translates to the viewer both the history of Taiwan and also the currently well-developed transportation system throughout the country. Though this spot is not traditionally a well-visited destination for foreign visitors, I felt very blessed to be able to come to this location today and have a different sort of experience.

Other things we did today include painting wooden statues of animals, learn about Hakka culture in Hsinchu, and make mochi!!! Our group had the best mochi...because we have Clement....just sayin'...
